First post...

So, this is my first post and I've decided to talk about blogging for just a minute.  I'm not sure why I'm starting this; not sure what makes one write and share 'anonymously' on the interwebs...  Will anyone even read this - other than a potential future employer :0 when I begin my civilian job search?  How do people even find it?  I certainly will not tell people, "hey dude, check out my blog".  So again, I'm not really sure why I'm doing this.  Perhaps I'll treat it like a journal - a journal that is open for anyone to read.  Mmmmpff - whatever....

All I know is that I have tons of things that randomly run through my head from time to time, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.  This is a good way to vent some of those thoughts, I guess.  First and foremost, I want to emphasize (to myself I guess, per my last paragraph) that these are generalized thoughts, and in no way are meant to offend anyone who may read a post (again, possibly only myself, so I'm safe...).  There, that's my caveat...

This morning I ran the 8th Air Force Flying Fortress 5k.  First 5k that I've run in quite some time.  It was a small race - maybe 150 - but fun.

A few observations from this morning.

1. The overall winner ran it in 14 something - holy shite!!

2. There are folks that seriously get into wearing all the gear - one husband and wife had all kinds of visors, eye wear w/ built in ear buds, all kinds of compression bands on every limb, fanny packs, and the man was wearing something around his shins/ankles that looked like the shin guards I wore in pee-wee soccer - weights...?  My wife swears the compression stuff works, but I can't shake the old man feeling when looking at a guy with all that crap on.  If I was drafting off the 14-minute guy perhaps...

3.  I definitely do not have a realistic perspective on my age and, more importantly, the appearance of my age.  As I was people watching waiting for the awards to be handed out, I would look at people and, in my head, compare our ages.  Well, as the awards were handed out, I realized most of the folks that I put in the "me and that guy are the same age" category were in their 20's - WTH...  I definitely need to work on this, as I do not want to be that creepy middle-aged guy trying to be younger than he is.  Am I that guy????

4.  I'm not getting any younger - I thought they'd never get to the 40-45 bracket.

I was fairly bummed as they called 3rd place and it was not my name, but was quickly overjoyed as they announced my name for 2nd place!!  All in all, it was great to be in a 5k again.  I always like the atmosphere, I'm a t-shirt whore, and there is always the chance of receiving some cheesy award that, in all honesty, makes me feel good to receive.
